One of the main agenda items discussed during the meeting was on the Compendium of Local Ordinances on Nutrition.
The Compendium of Local Ordinances on Nutrition is a knowledge-sharing platform for local government units to learn from initiatives of local governments who have successfully harnessed the strength of ordinances in scaling up nutrition. It aims to widely disseminate actual examples of effective local policies on nutrition in both print publication and online electronic compilation which can be publicly accessed by local governments.
The said platform is planned to be launched on July 1, 2020 during the kick-off of the 46th National Nutrition Month Celebration. With this, the National Nutrition Council is tasked to secure copies of the local ordinances on nutrition in the region and screen which ordinances can be part of the online compilation and print publication.
The Nutrition Action Officers, as key collaborators for nutrition in their respective areas, bear the role of coordinating with the local government units in strategizing and implementing local policies to scale up nutrition.
Nutrition Action Officers present agreed to coordinate and support with NNC in securing copies of the local ordinances in their respective provinces and cities. LGUs are expected to submit the local ordinances within the first half of June.
This compendium is an effective strategy to be undertaken and encouraged by NNC to intensify LGU mobilization in scaling up nutrition. Likewise, it is an effective knowledge-sharing platform for local government units.
After the launching of the first compendium, a progressive submission of ordinances will still be carried out to formulate a new set of Compendium of Local Ordinances on Nutrition.
Meanwhile, the local government units are encouraged to cooperate with the Nutrition Action Officers and NNC in coordinating their local policies on nutrition. #NO1DAFLendero
