PALO, Leyte -The National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Eastern Visayas has been conducting a series of orientation and simulation exercises in preparation for the upcoming 2021 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI).
The activity aims to ensure the familiarity of evaluators and nutrition officers across the region on the new features and mechanics of the updated monitoring and evaluation framework and system dubbed as MELLPI Pro.
On April 20, the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) joined the blended face-to-face and online orientation and simulation activity at Hotel Alejandro in Tacloban City, where they also discussed strategies for the smooth roll out of MELLPI while ensuring safety amid the threat of coronavirus disease 2019.
The following day, the same orientation was participated in by the provincial and city nutrition action officers (P/CNAO) in the region, as well as district/city nutrition program coordinators (DCNPC).
As agreed, the RNET will conduct the evaluation in blended online and on-site, depending on the health situation and community quarantine status of areas to be visited.
"It would be challenging for all of us so probably let us take some extra precautionary minimum standards in evaluating them. I hope we will have a successful MELLPI amid this challenging health crisis and yield very positive development from our LGUs particularly our local chief executives," said Catalino P. Dotollo Jr., National Nutrition Program Coordinator in the region.
Meanwhile, the evaluation schedule has yet to be finalized, as the NNC regional office here is still coordinating and confirming with the nutrition officers of the different provinces and cities in the region on their date assignment.
On April 15 and 16, municipal NAOs and some Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from the five districts of Leyte province, also attended orientation and simulation exercises at MacArthur Park view deck in this town.
MELLPI Pro was developed for local nutrition organizationa which covers the assessment of nationwide initiatives along vision and mission, policy legislation, governance and organizational structure, nutrition service delivery and capacity-building and changes in the nutritional status.
In addition, it is also a tool used to assess the performance of NAOs, DCNPCs, BNSs and the LGU's progress toward compliance to quality standards, evidence-based validation and mentoring through joint discussion for learning and action discussion with the LGU or nutrition workers assessed.
