TACLOBAN CITY - The National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Eastern Visayas on Thursday held its 2021 Nutrition Month Culmination Activity to wrap up the month-long annual celebration.
This year, the nutrition month campaign is anchored on the theme "Malnutrisyon Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan," which calls for continued efforts from all sectors in addressing malnutrition, focussing on the First 1000 Days of life as the strategic intervention to prevent stunting and obesity.
The highlight of the virtual activity is the announcement of winners of the NNC8's 47th Nutrition Month online contests, which was participated not only by nutrition advocates in the region but also some from Luzon and Mindanao.
For the nutri-poster making contest, Jomari Contado Manansala from Maydolong, Eastern Samar won first place followed by Dave Aron Globio of Balangkayan, Eastern Samar; Francis Albert Penero of Alangalang, Leyte; Gino Paul Lumpas of Tacloban City, and Hector Ubas of Lavezares, Northern Samar, winning second to fifth place, respectively.
In the nutri-jingle making contest, Elisha Grace Sandoval of Tacloban City was declared first-place winner, while VJ Leonidas Guillemer from Palompon, Leyte and Maydolong National High School (MNHS) in Eastern Samar, winning second and third place, respectively.
Announced as the winner for the nutri-infomercial making contest is Cheza Mae Piangco from Tacloban City, second-placer is MNHS, third is Ian Chester Solver from Camarines Norte, and fourth place is Kristian Bandon from Catarman, Northern Samar.
Winners of these major online contests will receive up to PHP3,000 cash and a certificate, while non-winners will also receive P200 worth of cellphone load.
The NNC8 also selected 10 winners in the 1M Malunggay Selfie Challenge who will receive PHP100 worth of cellphone load.
Meanwhile, Exuperia Sabalberino, DOH-8 Regional Director and RNC Chairperson, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, and Karl Caesar Rimando, DILG-8 Regional Director and RNC Vice Chair, each shared a short written message during the activity.
They congratulated NNC8 headed by RNPC Catalino Dotollo Jr., for the successful conduct of the 47th Nutrition Month, and likewise assured their commitment and support in various initiatives to curb malnutrition. #GSabalza
