NPM Training AugustTacloban City- Members of the Northern Samar Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) attended the five-day training on Nutrition Program Management held on August 2-6, 2021, at Casa Miguel, Catarman, Northern Samar.

Funded by the PNC, the training aimed to equip the PNC members and other stakeholders to critically analyze the nutrition situation and identify appropriate interventions to address malnutrition at the local government unit utilizing the NPM process.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Ninfa Caparroso-Kam, in her opening message said that a focused and integrated interventions is necessary to combat the long problem of malnutrition in the province.

Included as adjunct topic is the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 shared by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. which provides guidance in the formulation of the local nutrition action plan (LNAP).

Additionally, Dr. Dotollo advocated to include in the updated local nutrition action plan the creation of the nutrition action officer with an office and focused interventions on the First 1,000 days of the child.


NNC8 as training speakers and facilitators covered eight modules focusing on (1) Understanding food and Nutrition; (2) Advancing: The Core Values and Skills of Nutrition Workers; (3) Integrating NPM in the Local Governance and Development System; (4) NPM: Plan Preparation and Adoption; (5) NPM: Action, Activation and Adjustment; and (6) NPM: Monitoring and Evaluation.

The five-day training produced an updated Provincial Nutrition Action Plan (PNAP) with inclusion of programs, projects, and activities service delivery pursuant to Executive Order 138 or the Full Devolution of Certain Functions of the Executive Branch to Local Governments, Creation of a Committee on Devolution, and for other purposes.

In line with the EO 138 and the Mandanas-Garcia ruling, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) encourages the local government units to update the LNAPs and annual investments programs to secure adequate funding in 2022 and beyond. #NASLabordo
