Palo, Leyte-Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. Catalino Dotollo Jr. together with NOIII Dr. Nino Archie A. Labordo provided orientation to Palompon Mayor Myra Georgina L. Arevalo and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Lovelyn Ovales-Nunez and with DOH DMOIV Mae Analyn Tonacao Payos on Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program (TK:DSP) on 9 August 2021 at the Mayor’S Office, Municipal Building, Palompon, Leyte.

The town is one of the municipalities identified in the Phase III under the 100 Million Congressional Allocation of Senator Imee Marcos. Palompon has 3 allocated barangays with 106 beneficiaries of 6-23 months children.

Discussed by the NNC staff are the feeding schemes with 180 feeding days duration. Likewise, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) where it stipulates the roles and responsibilities, monitoring and inspection teams and LGU counterpart such as vehicle to deliver the cooked meals/snacks and cooking condiments. The Mayor vowed to provide counterpart support to the said program.

Meanwhile, NPC Dr Dotollo advocated on the creation of the MNAO and its office. He emphasized that the very big and sustainable counterpart the LGU can provide is to create a separate nutrition office with separate budget and nutrition staff. The Mayor promise to create an item of Nutrition Officer based on their income class. The highest NO to be appointed will be designated as full MNAO.

Additionally, NO III Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo discussed and handed in the new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Local Nutrition in Early Warning System (LNEWS) which the municipality is also a pilot area.

Further, Dr Dotollo reiterated the creation of nutrition office with full-time NAO and with support staff and a separate budget utilizing the Mandanas-Garcia ruling as opportunity for nutrition support.#NPC CPDotollo .......
