Tacloban City--- Leyte Province contender for the Local Nutrition Action Officer of the Year, MNAO Edward F. Lora meet with the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) for monitoring and validation on 25 August 2021 in Hilongos, Leyte.
Serving as Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) for nine (9) years, MNAO Lora is committed in serving the poor especially the children and mothers in Hilongos.
Though as MNAO he is under the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, MNAO Lora was instrumental to the successful nutrition program activities in the municipality particularly on the implementation of the infant and young child feeding (IYCF).
This year, the National Nutrition Council included the monitoring of the local nutrition focal points using the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro tool for the nutrition focal points.
Performance evaluation for local nutrition action officer is assessed through the following elements: (1) coordination; (2) orientation, promotion, and advocacy; (3) planning; (4) Implementation; (5) monitoring and evaluation; and (6) resource generation.o
When asked during the interview, MNAO Lora shared that proper coordination is the necessary skill a NAO should possess in order to get a positive result in nutrition program implementation. MNAO Lora relayed that the presence of the different stakeholders and the support of the Municipal Nutrition Committee shall be the weapon to generate more nutrition resources.
The Municipality of Hilongos is a pilot area on the implementation of the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1,000 days (ECCD F1KD) of life program of the NNC. Likewise, the town is a pilot area on the conduct of the Local Nutrition in Early Warning System (LNEWS) Food and Nutrition Security (FNS)
The search for the Local Nutrition Action Officer of the Year of the region is open to all city or municipal nutrition action officers subject to the evaluation and recommendation of the Provincial Nutrition Evaluation Team which subsequently validated by the RNET. #NASLabordo
