
Under SBFP, nutritious food products and pasteurized or sterilized milk are given to undernourished learners. The program aims to address hunger, contribute to nutritional status, improve school performance and learning outcomes, and increase the cognitive function and academic performance of the learners.
The SBFP of Leyte division consisted of enhanced nutribun in the first 54 days and sterilized milk given to school children. Under the scheme, DepEd delivers nutribun twice a week.

Under normal condition, the SBFP is complemented with Gulayan sa Paaralan, weekly iron folic acid supplementation for female adolescents, deworming, hand washing and tooth brushing and nutrition education which is embedded in the curriculum of grades 4-6. All elementary schools in Merida has their own detecto weighing.
For sustainability of the implementation, DepEd officials of the municipality who attended the Municipal Nutrition Action Planning workshop conducted by the National Nutrition Council in Region 8 and funded by the LGU of Merida.
