Dr TanPALO, Leyte - As the country and the world celebrates International Women’s Month, a woman behind making Maasin City’s bagging the Nutrition Honor Award, is celebrating her 60th birthday. That woman is Dr. Francilisa Irag-Tan, the city’s Health Officer and concurrent City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO).
Dr. Francilisa I. Tan and the entire City Nutrition Committee (CNC) chaired by former Mayor and now the city’s Vice Mayor Hon. Maloney Samaco did make it to the NHA that just easy.

During the first round, the city made it easy getting the Green Banner Award for three consecutive years after which they bagged the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition (CROWN). In the next two years they still bagged the 1st and 2nd Maintenance Award. On the third and last maintenance award, the city did not make it, short of the required proportion fir making it the the NHA.

However, the CNC did not dampen their spirits, through the leadership of Dr. Tan supported by the entire CNC through its Chairperson. Together with the CNC and the city’s Liga ng nga Barangay,through her initiatives, redesigned nutrition program planning and implementation with close monitoring and evaluation.
Moreover, in the second round of six years starting with 3 Green Banner award, CROWN award, 1st and 2nd Maintenance Award until they finally made it to the NHA. The National Nutrition Honor Award (NHA) is the highest award given by the National Nutrition Council to outstanding achievers in nutrition program implementation.

With COVID 19 pandemic this fantastic woman, side by side made it again in their first Green Banner Seal of Compliance while at the same continuing with its COVID 19 response. To date, Maasin City is one LGU who garnered a high proportion of individual vaccinated with anti COVID 19.

With these accomplishments in health and nutrition, the National Nutrition Council is one with empowered women who can make change in the lives of the vulnerable population. With this, we are so proud of the accomplishments of our celebrator, Dr. Francilisa Irag-Tan.
