CNAO TaclibanPALO, Leyte - The Nutrition Action Officers Association of the Philippines (NAOPA) Eastern Visayas chapter elected its new set of officers and board of directors during their regular NAOs meeting.

Elected Vice President is Tacloban City Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Maria Lumen Pedrosa-Tabao.

Malu as she is fondly called started her government service journey in 2005 when she was designated Officer-in-charge of the City Nutrition Office of Tacloban City.

Two years after she was appointed City Nutrition Officer. By 2010-2022 she was briefly assigned as Officer-in-charge of the City Tourism Office of the same city and Business Permits and Licensing Office. This is in top of her being a full time CNAO.

In 2011 just as she reached 5 years in the government services was one of the Regional Outstanding Nutrition Action Officer of Eastern Visayas. The same year, the City of Tacloban received its Green Banner Award by the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET).

Malu has a separate nutrition office with support staff and a separate budget.


At the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, she initiated the distribution of health kits and facemasks and face shields to pre-school children in 46 barangays of the city. The following year she then initiated the setting up of food pantry in 23 barangays tapping the barangay funds for this project.

Leadership wise, Malu was elected as President of the Leyte Normal University (LNU) Alumni Association in 2017 and is still the president up to this time. With her election as alumni president, she also sits as one of the Board of Regents of the LNU Board.

Moreover, Malu before her election as NAOPA Vice President, she was the immediate past secretary of the association.
