PALO, Leyte - The National Nutrition Council Region 8 avidly supports all nutrition initiatives promoting the well-being of the vulnerable groups (women & children) in normal times and especially during emergencies and disasters.
The NNC 8 team attended the E.O. 51, Milk Code Briefing organized by UNICEF Philippines through the initiative of UNICEF Hub and Local Nutrition Cluster Southern Leyte for all concerned Head of Offices, facilities and health units including concerned staff and humanitarian actors last June 9, 2022.
The activity aims to ensure nutrition actions are in-line with Executive Order 51 through the leadership of the head offices and concerned offices and staff in the region and to strengthen the MILK CODE ENFORCEMENT as response to the identified gaps during Typhoon Odette and Agaton.
The Importance of Breastfeeding was elaborated by Ms. Maria Evelyn Carpio, Nutrition Specialist of UNICEF Phils. Meanwhile, the presentation of EO 51 and its Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (RIRR) was lead by Atty. Christine Macaranas De Guzman, Legal Consultant of UNICEF Philippines.
It is expected that post-activity, all offices in attendance will re-echo the salient points of the Milk Code in all interventions within in-emergencies and non-emergency context. #RNPC-CPD
