Sogod BayPALO, Leyte – The National Nutrition Council Region 8 (NNC8) on August 3, 2022 joined the Sogod Inter-local Health Zone meeting to discuss updates on the Tutok-Kainan – Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP) of the government.

The Sogod Bay ILHZ is composed of the municipalities of Sogod, Bontoc, Tomas Opus, Libagon and Liloan. An ILHZ is defined to be any form or organized arrangement for coordinating the operations of an array and hierarchy of health providers and facilities, which typically includes primary health providers, core referral hospital and end-referral hospital, jointly serving a common population within a local geographic area.

For NNC8, updates on the Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP) Phase 5 for nutritionally at-risk pregnant women was discussed. The 19 local government units (LGUs) of the province composed of 18 municipalities and 1 city is a part of the program.

Development Management Officer II, Gerico A. Sabalzavdiscussed the general concepts of TK-DSP for nutritionally at-risk pregnant women. He further discussed the Sanguniang Bayan (SB) resolution authorizing the Local Chief Executiveto enter Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Nutrition Council.

Likewise, he elucidated the contents and salient point of the MOU.

Under the TK-DSP phase 5, LGU will cover at least 1-2 barangays wit highest prevalence of nutritionally at risk (NAR) pregnant women. If the LGUs expand to more than 2 barangays, they will absorb other expenses such as text blasts, nutrition education classes through NNC’s Idol Ko si Nanay/Tatay modules.

The NNC will fund the commodities of the feeding based on their number of partner-beneficiary NAR women.

Joining, DMO II Sabalza are Information Management Officer Ms. Danielle April R. Miralles and Project Development Officer 1 Ms. Evelyn M. Ramos who will help in the follow up and monitoring activities.

The meeting was held at the Marianne Family Center, San Jose, Sogod, Southern Leyte.

Afterwards, the two proceeded to Maasin City for the conduct of technical assistance for the province and city on Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) on Nutrition. #RNPC-CPD
