PALO, Leyte - The Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator (RNPC) of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region 8 paid courtesy visit to the newly elected Mayor of Barugo, Leyte, Dr. Aaron Cabanacan-Balais.
During the courtesy visit, RNPC Catalino P. Dotollo personally donned the PPAN advocacy jacket to Mayor Balais, a medical doctor by profession and specializes in emergency medicine.
The visit is an opportunity to advocate for increased investment for nutrition programs, projects and activities as the country transitioned from COVID-19 pandemic to endemic mode in the new normal.
Dr. Dotollo handed over NEOtrition (Newly Elected Officials Nutrition) Guide. He pointed to Dr. Balais how to improve nutrition outcomes in the municipality.
Moreover, Dotollo pointed out to the doctor-mayor the importance of creating Nutrition Action Officer position with office and the minimum requirements of staffing pattern for the said nutrition office.
Being a medical doctor, Dotollo have high hopes for the municipality under Dr. Balais’ watch to prioritize nutrition investments in their Municipal Nutrition Action Plan (MNAP).
Dr. Balais’ vowed to prioritize health and nutrition PPAs during the 5-day Basic Training Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and General Orientation on Nutrition in Emergencies (see and read separate story). The later was also attended by members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee. #RNPC-CPD
