PALO, Leyte – Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr., regional nutrition program coordinator of the National Nutrition Council Region 8 has sat down with the committee hearing on the Sangguniang Bayan resolution “Creation of Nutrition Office in the Municipality of Basey”.

The said SB resolution is sponsored by SB Committee on Health, Hon. Elnora C. Quebec.

Hon. Quebec laid down the foundation on the creation of nutrition office, identfying at least 18 legal basis why such will be created. The said SB resolution is on its second reading. She further said that the creation of said nutrition office is crucial as the nutrition sector has always been not a priority and is competing with equally important health programs such as the COVID 19 response.

For his part, RNPC Dr. Dotollo discussed the importance of investing on nutrition through nutrition leadership and governance.

He started his presentation using the five step Newly Elected Officials Nutrition (NEOtrition) guide toward improved and successful nutrition programs.

He showed to the committee members proposed staffing pattern for nutrition office. He further elaborated on the roles and functions of the Municipal Nutrition Office.

In attendance is the current designated Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Darlene Wong. She said that creation of nutrition is important so that the nutrition sector will have its own budget and not at the health sector.

She further said that after the creation of nutrition office is putting people to manage the office. According to Wong once the positions are created it will be open to other interested qualified applicants.

The committee made a compromise to have it discuss and consider the resolution for its approval. #RNPC-CPD
