PALO, Leyte - Another local government unit in Eastern Visayas, this time in Palompon, Leyte opened its separate nutrition office, according to Ms. Lovelyn Hortelano Ovales, the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO)

MNAO Lovelyn is a Public Health Nurse by plantilla position but is a full time designated MNAO.

Ovales further said that along with opening of the nutrition office is assignment of three technical and support staff.

They will assist MNAO Ovales in the day-to-day operation of the nutrition office. She also said, she will request for the creation of a nutrition plantilla position next year.

Recently, MNAO Ovales attended together with the nutrition core planning team a 3-day Local Nutrition Action Plan 2023-2025 formulation. Upon returning home, she presented their draft MNAP to the local sangunian. The programs, projects and activities reflected in the MNAP was funded and is incorporated in the 2023 Annual Investment Program (AIP).

Palompon, Leyte is the home of major National Nutrition Council banner programs. This include Radyo Kausbawan, a community nutriskwela station managed by the Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT). It has also NNC’s Local Nutrition in Early Warning System (LNEWS) project.

Moreover, the LGU will also start another NNC initiated project dubbed Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program (TK:DSP). The supplementation program is targeting nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children aged 6-23 months.

Palompon is a second class and coastal municipality located in the province of Leyte. #RNPC-CPD
