10 new Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations were added to the roster of NNC’s nutrition communicators and champions this year as part of the fifth phase of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program.

The criteria on selecting areas to establish a Nutriskwela Community Radio Station remain the same. The 10 new areas were methodically selected and assessed according to high malnutrition prevalence and limited or absence of access to broadcast media. In partnership with their respective local government units, the 10 new members of the Nutriskwela Family are:

  1. Radyo Karruba 91.1 FM in Burgos, Ilocos Norte
  2. Radyo Kataguwan 102.5 FM in Bauko, Mountain Province
  3. Radyo Kaedup 102.9 FM in Dingalan, Aurora
  4. Radyo Kapalayawan 100.5 FM in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro
  5. Radyo Katabang 107.7 FM in Vinzons, Camarines Norte
  6. Radyo Kaabyanan 88.5 FM in Sibalom, Antique
  7. Radyo Kabulig 103.1 FM in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar
  8. Radyo Kasaganaan 99.7 FM in Maitum, Sarangani
  9. Radyo Kinaiyahan 102.1 FM in Malimono, Surigao del Norte
  10. Radyo Kahimunan 101.3 FM in Laak, Compostella Valley

All radio station names were derived from different local dialect variations of ‘community’ to exemplify the characteristic of Nutriskwela Community Radio stations as being operated by and for the people.

In addition to the establishment of 10 new community radio stations, the existing Nutriskwela community stations from 2008 to present are continuously given assistance including technical and logistical support and upgrading of equipment and transmitters of  qualified radio stations.

To date, there are 45 existing Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations established in 17 out of 18 regions in the country. With this, NNC looks forward to intensified nutrition promotion campaigns in the communities through the help of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations.
