RNC photosDr. Eduardo C. Janairo, the Chair of Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and the Director of Center for Health Development-Metro Manila (CHD-MM), presented the proposed Metro Manila's nutrition program for 2012 in the RNC meeting held last February 17 at the Conference Room of CHD-MM, Mandaluyong City. Twelve agencies were represented during the meeting namely, PopCom-NCR; DA-Region IV; NSO-NCR; Hope for the Youth Foundation, Inc; Grace Family Helper Project; DepEd-NCR; TESDA-NCR; MMDA; PIA-NCR; DILG; CHD-MM and NNC-NCR.

Director Janairo's proposed activities on nutrition focuses on the following: (1) breastfeeding network and ensuring continuum of service; (2) community-based feeding program for street children and mother's classes for families included in the list based on the National Household Targeting System (NHTS); (3) putting up of Sangkap Pinoy posters in markets, grocery stores to promote fortified food products and staples; (4) fastfood establishments and restaurants to indicate the calorie content of their meals; (5) teaching people how to compute their caloric requirement and calories in foods; (6) making people conscious of their Body Mass Index (BMI); and (7) a research on cellular nutrition for senior citizens. Dir. Janairo emphasized the need to make “good eating behavior” and healthy lifestyle a “craze” or the “in” thing in Metro Manila.

Other agenda of the meeting were as follows: Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2011-2016, MELLPI 2012, formulation of Regional Nutrition Action Plan 2012-2016, Nutrition Month celebration 2012, Shepherding Project, RNC Resolution No. 1, Series 2012 "Implementation of the Shepherding Guidelines", and other matters. One of the agreements reached during the meeting was the passage of an RNC Resolution adopting the shepherding project which is a strategy of the RNC in mentoring priority LGUs to help them improve their nutrition program implementation and management.irement and calories in foods; (6) making people conscious of their Body Mass Index (BMI); and (7) a research on cellular nutrition for senior citizens.
