The NNC-NCR conducted a one-day Program Implementation Review (PIR) with the 17 LGUs of Metro Manila on November 27, 2014 at the Training Room of Marikina Healthy City Center to assess the progress of local PPAN implementation in the region.
The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), the country's blueprint in addressing hunger and malnutrition, provides the framework for improving the nutritional status of Filipinos. The PPAN implementation at the local level contributes significantly to the overall success of the PPAN. The periodic assessment of the local PPAN implementation is an important activity to determine whether programs, projects and activities (PPAs) were undertaken as planned, targets were reached, expected outcomes were realized and resources were utilized efficiently. It is also considered as one of the key elements of effective nutrition program management (NPM).
Around 40 participants from the 17 LGUs composed of nutrition action officer, chiefs of local nutrition office, medical nutrition program coordinators and city/municipal nutrition program coordinators participated in the PIR. There were lecture-presentations and workshops which enabled the participants to identify the ten (10) priority actions of the Updated PPAN 2011-2016; gain insights from the sharing of good practices on NPM by the cities of Valenzuela, San Juan, Muntinlupa and Quezon City; assess their respective local PPAN accomplishments vis-à-vis their local nutrition action plan (LNAP); identify the good points as well as bottlenecks, issues and concerns in the local PPAN implementation; identify corrective actions to improve program performance in 2015; and articulate their expectations from the NCR regional office in terms of how the NNC-NCR Office can assist them better in their local PPAN implementation and what the C/DNPCs can commit to improve LGU performance in 2015.
