Seeing the need to reach more people through news articles on nutrition and nutrition programs, the National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) sought out selected local nutrition program coordinators/nutritionist-dietitians in the region to become members of the NCR Nutrition Writers' Guild. As members of the Guild, they will be contributing writers for the NNC-NCR webpage and will post write-ups on their respective local nutrition offices' activities on the NNC-NCR Facebook page.

On July 30, 2014, NNC-NCR conducted a Training on Press Release and Web Article Writing as part of their 2014 Training and Development Program. It aims to enhance the skills of the NNC-NCR official and staff in writing press releases and web articles. NPC Milagros Elisa V. Federizo seized the opportunity and included the members of the newly organized writers' guild in the said training.

Ms. Thea Alberto-Masakayan, Frontpage Editor of Yahoo! Philippines, was the Resource Person of the one-day training cum writeshop. Ms. Masakayan discussed the basics on news writing, web article writing and gave tips on writing headlines and lead.

Members of the NCR Nutrition Writers' Guild expressed their gratitude for the training as they find it refreshing and relevant. The NNC-NCR official and technical staff as well as the members of the Guild found the training useful since most of them know how to write technical reports but consider writing web articles and press releases quite a challenge. They will use the learnings that they got from the training not only in contributing news stories for the webpage of NNC-NCR but also in writing articles for their respective LGU newsletters and other publications.
