The Association of the City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators of Metro Manila successfully staged their Annual Regional Convention on 18 October 2013 at the New Horizon Hotel in Mandaluyong City with the theme “Ageing Gracefully through Good Nutrition”. The event was attended by C/DNPCs from the 17 cities and municipality in the region and nutritionist-dietitians (NDs) from the academe, hospital and industry.
This year’s convention theme focused on nutrition and how it can help one to age gracefully and healthy. The topics discussed were “Nutrition and Menopause” by Dr. Catherine Medina; “Mastering Glucose Control” by Dr. Nemencio A. Nicodemus, Jr., an Associate Professor of UP College of Medicine; “Public Health Aspects of Overweight and Obesity” presented by Prof. Cecile Leah T. Bayaga of the College of Home Economics, UP Diliman; and “The Biggest Winner” discussed by Bro. Eng Si, a Feast Builder of The Feast. Ms. Marie Tess Belo, CNPC of Mandaluyong City, delivered the synthesis.
“The Association conducts a regional convention every year in partnership with the National Nutrition Council-NCR for the continuing professional education of its members, “explains Assn. President Eileen S. Guevara of Marikina City. “This year’s convention aims to empower the members and other fellow NDs in coping with the changes and challenges of ageing and to inform others how to maintain good health and productivity as we become older.” Pres. Guevara added.
The Association of C/DNPCs of Metro Manila was organized in 1985 and was registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 1993. To date, the Association has more than 90 members composed of local nutrition program coordinators from the 17 cities and municipality in the region.
