As an initial step in the region-wide promotion of the NGF in Metro Manila, the National Nutrition Council-NCR conducted a Workshop on the Formulation of Communication Plan for the Promotion of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) in NCR on August 7-8, 2013 at Tagaytay Country Hotel in Tagaytay City.
The NGF consists of ten (10) messages which are primary recommendations to promote good health through proper nutrition. They are simple statements that give advice on the consumption of foods and food components for which there are public health concerns. The promotion of the NGF is an important strategy in improving the dietary and related health practices of Filipinos toward improved nutritional condition.
To ensure the widest dissemination and use of the NGF in NCR, a communication plan was crafted by the workshop participants composed of members of the regional nutrition media group; local nutrition program coordinators; members of the Regional Nutrition Speakers Bureau; officers of the Regional Federation of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars; Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Coordinator; Medical Nutrition Program Coordinator; and representatives from the Girl Scouts of the Philippines, school/youth organization (PAN Delta Chapter of CEU-Manila) and partner agencies namely, Save the Children, Nutrition Center of the Philippines, Grace Family Helper Project, DEPED-NCR, DSWD-NCR and DILG-NCR.
The participants may have come from different areas and disciplines but they are united by a common goal which is to increase the public and target stakeholders’ consciousness and practice of the NGF in Metro Manila by undertaking various advocacy and promotional strategies.
