NNC-NCR conducted its Training on Nutrition in Emergencies at Berjaya Hotel in Makati City on September 7-11, 2015. Sixteen (16) members of the Regional Nutrition Cluster from different agencies namely: Department of Health – NCRO, Commission on Population – NCR, Department of Social Welfare and Development – NCR, Department of Trade and Industry – NCR Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP), City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators Association of Metro Manila, Inc., Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines, Inc., Infant and Young Child Feeding Coordinators of Metro Manila, , ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163, NCR Nutrition Communication Resource Group, Philippine Red Cross National Headquarter, Save the Children, Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars of NCR, Inc., Rural Improvement Clubs of the Philippines, Inc., Grace Family Helper Project, and Hope for the Youth Foundation and Manila Health Department as representative of the 17 LGUs in NCR completed the 5-day live-in training.
The training was facilitated by Dr. Rene Gerard C. Galera (Nutrition in Emergencies Officer, UNICEF Philippines), Dr. Martin R. Parreno (National Program Officer on Nutrition, World Food Programme Philippines), Ms. Maria Lourdes A. Vega (Chief, NPPD), Dr. Irvin R. Miranda (HEMS Coordinator, DOH-NCRO), Ms. Soccoro Alma F. Gammad (NO IV, Chief of Nutrition Section, Makati City), Dr. Nilda S. del Rosario (IYCF Program Coordinator, Pasig City Health Department), Mr. Frederich Christian S. Tan (NOII, NSD), Ms. Maria Elena V. Navarro (Program Manager, Grace Family Helper Project), NPC Mila Federizo, and NOIII Meren Francia. NO I Bea Menorca and AAVI Keanne Reyes acted as secretariat.
This intensive training helped equip the members of the Regional Nutrition Cluster with the expertise needed to lead or support nutrition responses during emergencies. This training employed a range of training techniques which guided the participants understand the complexity of emergency management and enabled them to know what they would need to immediately and appropriately do to prevent the worsening of malnutrition during an emergency.
