SanJuan3GClubSan Juan City launched its 3G Club or the “Galing at Gandang Ginang ng San Juan/Go, Grow, Glow Club” on May 1, 2016 at the Atrium of San Juan City Hall.

The project was conceptualized by the city nutrition secretariat headed by City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Rosalie Sto. Domingo in support of the First 1000 Days Campaign.  The 3G Club aims to help pregnant and lactating mothers and their babies achieve good health and nutritional status during the first 1000 days of the child which covers the period of pregnancy up to the first two years of life of the child.

The launch was attended by pregnant and lactating mothers and various stakeholders from the city and barangays, project partners from hospitals, non-governmental organizations, private companies and national government agencies including the National Nutrition Council – National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) represented by Nutrition Officer II Theresa Rivas and Administrative Aide VI Lianell Tolentino.

NO II Rivas delivered the message of Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo.  In her message, NPC Federizo commended the City of San Juan for initiating the 3G Club to promote good nutrition during the First 1000 Days. According to NPC Federizo, the success of the project depends not only on the collaborative efforts of the city government and its partners but more importantly, on the participation and commitment of the mothers and their families.

“Prevention is better than cure.  Malnutrition can be prevented if pregnant women and would-be mothers are healthy, if mothers will exclusively breastfeed their infants from birth up to six (6) months and will give timely and appropriate complementary feeding starting at 6 months while continuing breastfeeding. Let us save our young children from malnutrition by providing them good nutrition and adequate care during their First 1000 Days,” NPC Federizo said in her message as delivered by NO II Rivas.

Mayor Guia Gomez graced the event and led the stakeholders in pledging their commitment to collaborate and synchronize their efforts in providing quality health care and nutrition support to pregnant and lactating mothers.

Those who attended the launch were given 10 Kumainments flyer, foldable fan, Pinggang Pinoy brochure and breastfeeding comics by NNC-NCR as part of its nutrition promotion and advocacy. They were also given health and nutrition services such as nutrition counseling, assessment of blood glucose and blood pressure levels,  HIV testing, family planning counseling, and responsible parenthood-family planning/KATROPA sessions as wells as free manicure, pedicure and massage. The Philippine Red Cross also provided services through its Help Desk.

NNC-NCR supports San Juan City in its fight against malnutrition by investing on the First 1000 Days through its 3G Club Project.
