The cities of Mandaluyong and Taguig, two of the outstanding LGUs in NCR, extended their support and assistance to each to raise the level of nutrition in the region.
Being the recipient of the Green Banner Award for three consecutive years in the region, Taguig City is now elevated as a Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Awardee at the national level.
In preparation for the 2017 national evaluation for their bid to the 1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award, the Taguig City Nutrition Secretariat and some members of the city nutrition committee led by City Nutrition Action Officer Julie Bernabe visited Mandaluyong City on September 27, 2016 to learn from the latter’s good practices on nutrition program management and see their documentation reports.
Mandaluyong City was chosen by Taguig City as the venue for their learning visit in view of them being a 2015 Nutrition Honor Award contender. The NHA is the highest award of recognition given by the National Nutrition Council to a local government unit.
Taguig City delegates were warmly welcomed by CNAO Dr. Pecos Camarines and members of the Mandaluyong Nutrition Secretariat and CNC. During the morning session, CNAO Camarines presented the city’s nutrition programs followed by an interactive session wherein participants actively asked questions regarding the city’s nutrition program planning, implementation and management. Mandaluyong CNPC Mathet Belo also provided techniques on how to write and package documentation reports. In the afternoon, the participants visited Brgy. Mabini J. Rizal to learn how nutrition programs are being implemented at the barangay and to see the documents of the 2015 Regional Outstanding BNS Ms. Saloma Zamora.
Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos also took the time to welcome the delegates. She said that this was a good activity in showcasing the unity, support and good relationship of the Metro Manila LGUs. “We should not think of each other as competitors. An award to an LGU in NCR will bring honor not only to that LGU but to the whole region. I believe all the LGUs in NCR share a common goal and that is providing good health and nutrition to all our constituents so that they can enjoy a good quality of life.” Mayor Abalos added.
Lastly, Mayor Abalos is optimistic that through the continued support of the National Nutrition Council – NCR headed by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Mila Federizo and the unwavering commitment of the members of the city nutrition committees of both Mandaluyong and Taguig, they will win the NHA and the 1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award, respectively.
