Regional Director Ariel Valencia discussing the Urban Gardening PlanPasig City - “It is good that we have people around helping each other to improve the health and nutrition situation of Metro Manila”, Regional Nutrition Committee Chair and Department of Health – National Capital Regional Office Regional Director Dr. Ariel I. Valencia said in his message during the Joint Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and Regional Nutrition Management Group (RNMG) Year-end meeting.

The members of the RNC and RNMG met on December 9, 2016 to assess their group’s accomplishments in 2016 and discuss their plans for 2017.

The RNC through their regular meetings and consultation with various stakeholders was able to pass four (4) RNC resolutions in 2016 in support of the RNC’s Shepherding Project, mainstreaming nutrition in all service delivery points, inclusion of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) implementation in the regular agenda of Local Health Boards’ meetings and the retention of BNSs. The RNC and RNMG remain to be very supportive in the conduct of regional activities such as Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI), Nutrition Month, Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony and NGO forum and membership to the regional committees such as Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) and Regional Nutrition Cluster and NCR Nutrition Communication Resource Group (NCR2).

In 2017, the RNC will put up a model urban vegetable garden in the DOH-NCRO compound.  This project will be spearheaded by NNC-NCR with the assistance of DA-Region IV-A and other RNC members.  The urban vegetable garden will be launched in the early part of 2017 as one of the activities in line with the 30th DOH-NCRO Anniversary.

The RNC and the RNMG as its technical arm, remain steadfast in their commitment to pursue the nutrition improvement in the region and sustain the gains in collaboration with the local government units and partner agencies.
