Members of the NCR Nutrition Writers’ Guild attended a workshop on “Writing for the Web” held on January 12, 2017 at the Boardroom of the National Nutrition Council in Taguig City.
The National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) conducted the workshop to capacitate members of the NCR Nutrition Writers’ Guild on how to properly write news and feature articles. As members of the Writers’ Guild, they are expected to be active contributing writers in the NNC-NCR webpage and in their respective local newsletters.
The NCR Nutrition Writers’ Guild was organized in 2014 with the primary purpose of creating a pool of writers in NCR to promote good nutrition and nutrition programs, projects and activities in the region through the use of their respective local and NNC-NCR’s webpages, Facebook Fanpages and LGU newsletters. Each of the seventeen (17) local government units in Metro Manila is represented in the Writers’ Guild by a nutritionist-dietitian/local nutrition program coordinator.
In her opening remarks, NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo hopes that through the workshop, all members will actively contribute articles on their LGU’s nutrition programs and activities. By publishing these articles in the web, more people, locally and globally, will be aware of the efforts being done by the LGUs in addressing the problem of hunger and malnutrition in Metro Manila.
During the workshop, Resource Speaker from NNC Paul John Garcia discussed in detail the differences between the news and feature articles. He explained the various elements a writer need to consider when writing an article and the guidelines to be followed in writing the different parts of the article. News and technical writing tips were also imparted to the participants. In the end, he encouraged everyone to keep reading and writing. Most importantly, find the purpose for writing and use it as an instrument to call for and initiate action.
NPC Federizo hopes that with the learnings gained on writing articles for the web, the NCR Writers’ Guild can help intensify the advocacy and promotion of good nutrition through social media and the web.
