npm training 2017 revThe National Nutrition Council – NCR trained members of the local nutrition committees (LNC) in Metro Manila on Nutrition Program Management (NPM) to enable them to effectively and efficiently manage their local nutrition programs.

The 5-day live-in training was held on May 8-12, 2017 at the Robbinsdale Residences in Quezon City. It was attended and completed by twenty-nine (29) local nutrition workers composed of city nutrition program coordinators, city/barangay nutrition action officers and members of the LNC from the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Marikina, Pasig, Taguig, Mandaluyong, Las Piñas, Parañaque and Muntinlupa and the Municipality of Pateros.  Also, two (2) members of the Regional Nutrition Management Group from Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Grace Family Helper Project joined the training.

The training consisted of eight (8) modules which covered various topics to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants in the area of NPM and strengthen their core values as nutrition workers.  Through the training, the participants were able to better understand the whole NPM process and use it to effectively plan, implement, monitor, evaluate and sustain nutrition programs in their own localities.

The training was facilitated by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo, Ms. Soccoro Alma Gammad (Nutrition Officer IV of Makati City), Ms. Femilina Tuazon (Nutritionist-Dietitian III) of Makati City and Ms. Maria Teresa Abando (ND II of Caloocan City). Other facilitators were NO III Emerenciana Francia, NO II Theresa Rivas and NO I Mary Agnes Beatrice Menorca.  NO I Menorca together with Administrative Aide IV Stephanie Joy Bactad acted as the training secretariat.

Together with their LNCs and other stakeholders, participants were encouraged to become effective nutrition program managers to help address food and nutrition insecurity in the region.  “Be the catalysts for change in revitalizing your local nutrition committees and in improving your nutrition program management in your respective LGUs.  Lastly, be one of the spoons for the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022,” RNPC Federizo said.
