The National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) participated in the 2nd Health Outreach for People Empowerment (HOPE) Caravan conducted by the Department of Health – National Capital Regional Office (DOH-NCRO) on November 04, 2017 at the Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City.
With the theme “The Last Mile Towards Universal Health Care: Saan Mang Sulok, Kalusugan Maaabot”, the HOPE Caravan aimed to reach the most vulnerable groups who are in need of immediate health services. The grand launch of the HOPE Caravan for MCCT beneficiaries was held on September 05, 2017 in Pasay City targeting beneficiaries from the cities of Pasay and Manila.
The caravan targeted more than 2,000 beneficiaries of the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer (MCCT) from Quezon City for its 2nd run.
DOH-NCRO together with Quezon City Government and partner agencies provided beneficiaries with the following services: 1) health and nutrition education; 2) anthropometric assessment of nutritional status; 3) blood typing and random blood sugar test; 4) risk assessment; 5) medical consultation; 6) child care; 7) vaccination of senior citizens; 8) surgery referrals and minor surgery; 9) maternal consultations; 10) family planning counseling; 11) dental services; 12) ophthalmology; 13) ENT consultation; 14) basic laboratory services and TB screening; and 15) PhilHealth consultation and provision of ID.
Nutrition Officers Thesa Rivas and Bea Menorca gave brief lectures and counseling using the 10 Kumainments and Pinggang Pinoy as tools in promoting good nutrition to the participants. Flyers on the 10 Kumainments, Healthy Diet and First 1000 Days were distributed to 279 beneficiaries as part of nutrition promotion and advocacy.
