To prepare the city of Taguig for their bid to the 2nd Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award, the National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region visited the city on February 9 and 26, 2018 to conduct technical assistance to the city nutrition secretariat.
The NNC-NCR team, composed of all technical staff headed by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo, conducted a pre-evaluation of the accomplishments of Taguig City’s nutrition programs using the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) tool. The team also provided suggestions and recommendations on how to improve documentation reports of activities and checked the barangay nutrition action plans of Taguig City’s 28 barangays.
Taguig City’s nutrition secretariat headed by City Nutrition Action Officer Julie Bernabe noted all the recommendations given by NNC-NCR.
The mentoring visits served as a readiness check in preparation for the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team visit on March 21, 2018 and for the National Evaluation Team (NET) validation on April 4-6, 2018 as well.
Being the Green Banner Awardee for three (3) consecutive years since 2013 and having been awarded the 1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award in 2017, Taguig City now vies for its 2nd Year CROWN Maintenance Award.
To be awarded with the 2nd Year CROWN Maintenance Award, a local government unit (LGU) should have a score of at least 95% based on the evaluation of the NET. The Nutrition Honor Award is the highest recognition given by the National Nutrition Council to an LGU that has reached a score of at least 98% and has consistently shown outstanding planning, management and implementation of their local nutrition programs anchored on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) marked by efficiency and effectiveness.
RNPC Federizo thanked CNAO Bernabe for warmly welcoming the group. She also commended the improvements noted in the local nutrition action plans and documentation reports of the City Nutrition Committee (CNC). She committed to continue mentoring the CNC and its nutrition secretariat until the city attains the NHA. With the help of every member of the CNC and nutrition secretariat, Taguig City believes that reaching the NHA status is not an impossible dream. (TAR/NPC MEVF/NNC-NCR)
