summative evaluation PGNThe College of Public Affairs and Development (CPAfD) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños Laguna was commissioned by the National Nutrition Council to conduct a Summative Evaluation of the Promote Good Nutrition (PGN) Training Program. The National Capital Region is one of the regions selected for the summative evaluation. The evaluation was held on April 16-18, 2018 at the NNC regional office and the cities of Pasig and Mandaluyong. The study primarily aims to analyze the factors that facilitated and hindered the attainment of target program outcomes and overall results of the program implementation of the PGN.

On April 16, Professor Maria Ana T. Quimbo and Ms. Algilyn P. Dolotina of UPLB-CPAfD conducted a key informant interview (KII) and post-test with two (2) regional trainers of PGN in NCR, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Mila Federizo and Nutrition Officer III Meren Francia.

The cities of Pasig and Mandaluyong were visited on April 17 and 18, respectively, by four (4) researchers namely Prof. Quimbo, Ms. Dolotina, Ms. Tiffany Teoxon, and Mr. Mark Estudillo. In Pasig City, KIIs and post-test were conducted among three (3) city trainers, Nutritionist-Dietitians Ms. Marissa Almario, Ms. Neila Reyes, and Ms. Josie Clemens Francisco. A focus group discussion (FGD) and post-test were also held among eight (8) barangay nutrition scholars (BNS). Some of the questions asked during the KII and FGD were the topics they handled during the training, challenges encountered, actions taken and follow through activities conducted, changes that happened in the community and with the trainer themselves, and recommendations for future PGN trainings.

In Mandaluyong City, KIIs and post-test were also conducted among two (2) trainers, Nutritionist-Dietitian Ms. Marie Tess Belo and IYCF Coordinator Dr. Shari Sabalvaro. FGD and post-test were also held among thirteen (13) BNSs and barangay health workers.

A total of twenty (20) mother-beneficiaries each from Barangay Bambang (Pasig City) and Barangay Mauway (Mandaluyong City) also participated in the survey. They were asked about information on various PGN materials and activities such as the Pabasa Sa Nutrisyon, Infant and Young Child Feeding Program and Egg and Veggie Syllabus.

The documentation reports, training program and design, and pre- and post-test results were also reviewed by the researchers. They were assisted by Nutrition Officer I Bea Menorca in their 3-day activity.  (MABRM/TAR/NPC MEVF/NNC-NCR)
