The inter-agency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team of the National Capital Region (RNET-NCR) identified the top performing local government units (LGUs) to receive the 2017 Green Banner and other special awards during the deliberation meetings held on May 23 and June 6, 2018 at the Board/Conference Room of the National Nutrition Council in Taguig City.
This year’s RNET is chaired by Ms. Lucia Broño of the Philippine Information Agency – NCR (PIA-NCR), vice chaired by Ms. Marlene Navarro of the Grace Family Helper Project with active members from the different government agencies namely: Department of Health – NCRO (DOH-NCRO), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Agriculture – IV – A (DA- IVA), Department of the Interior and Local Government – NCR (DILG-NCR); Department of Social Welfare and Development – NCR (DSWD-NCR), Department of Education – NCR (DepEd-NCR), Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines (NFP), Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP) and Rural Improvement Clubs of the Philippines Inc. The NNC-NCR, headed by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo, acts as the secretariat of the RNET.
The RNET deliberated on and finalized the results of this year’s Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) conducted from March 21 to May 11, 2018 covering all the 17 cities and municipality in NCR.
The MELLPI is an annual monitoring and evaluation activity of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the planning and management of local nutrition programs anchored on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). Among the aspects evaluated and validated were the functionality of local nutrition committees, targeting and outreach of nutrition interventions, nutritional status of preschool and school children and provision of budget for nutrition programs.
The search for the 2017 Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) was also conducted during the MELLPI visits. Fifteen (15) outstanding BNSs from 14 cities and 1 (one) municipality in Metro Manila vied for the 2017 ROBNS.
The BNSs are community-based nutrition workers who deliver basic nutrition and related services in the communities. The NNC recognizes yearly Outstanding BNSs in the country who have shown exemplary performance and contributed much to the improvement of the nutrition situation in the community he or she serves.
During the deliberation meetings, the RNET carefully discussed and reviewed the MELLPI results to determine the outstanding LGU in the region to receive the 2017 Green Banner (GB) Award. An LGU must have a minimum final score of 90% to qualify for the GB Award.
Special awards will also be given to LGUs that excelled in specific areas of nutrition program implementation.
Top performing LGUs will be recognized during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony to be held on July 27, 2018 at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City. (TAR/NPC MEVF/NNC-NCR)
