Latch On with captionThe City Government of San Juan, through the San Juan Medical Center (SJMC) Pediatric Center held the PPS Global Big Latch On “Date to Bare” last August 03, 2018 at the San Juan Gymnasium. The activity was held in partnership with the San Juan City Nutrition Committee.

The PPS Global Latch On was conducted to encourage mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding for the first six (6) months and to increase awareness on breastfeeding support and knowledge. It was a fun activity where mothers shared their experiences and seek support from each other. The mothers were also encouraged to normalize breastfeeding in public. Other partners of the event were SJMC Obstetrics-Gynecology Department and Breastfeeding Committee.

The event was attended by 125 breastfeeding mothers with their infants and children and 27 breastfeeding supporters. Mr. Anthony Benabese, Nutritionist-Dietitian, led the countdown for the simultaneous breastfeeding that happened at exactly 10:30 in the morning that lasted for one (1) minute.

In addition to free food, the participants received loot bags from City Mayor Guia Gomez and various sponsors. Everybody went home happy and proud that they were able to participate in this global activity.

This worldwide event aims to raise awareness on how to breastfeed properly and to ensure that the baby is getting all the nutrients that is essential for his/her growth and development. (TAR/NPC MEVF/NNC-NCR)
