Participants and facilitators of the 2019 Nutrition Program Management Training. The National Nutrition Council – NCR conducted its 6th batch of training on Nutrition Program Management on August 5-9, 2019 at St. Giles Hotel, Makati City. The training was attended by twenty-three (23) participants from ten (10) LGUs namely Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, San Juan, Makati, Manila, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa and Paraǹaque. Participants were composed of City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO), Assistant CNAO, City Nutrition Program Coordinators, BHW District Leaders, and members of the local nutrition committees.

The training was facilitated by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo, Ms. Soccoro Alma Gammad (Nutrition Officer IV of Makati City), Ms. Maria Ana Ordenes (Nutritionist-Dietitian III of Muntinlupa City) and Ms. Marie Tess Belo (ND III of Mandaluyong City). Other facilitators were NO III Emerenciana Francia, NO II Theresa Rivas and NO I Mary Agnes Beatrice Menorca.  NO I Menorca together with Administrative Aide VI Sarah Jane Bautista acted as the training secretariat.

The participants finished all eight (8) training modules which covered various topics to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants in the area of NPM and strengthen their core values as nutrition workers. Various teaching and learning methodologies were used during the training such as lectures, group discussions, role playing, exercises, games, and experiential learning/sharing. Through the training, the participants were able to better understand the whole NPM process and use it to effectively plan, implement, monitor, evaluate and sustain nutrition programs in their own localities.

RNPC Federizo hopes that after the training, participants will have deeper appreciation of their roles as nutrition workers. “We cannot solve the problem of malnutrition alone. But through the collective and collaborative efforts of nutrition workers and stakeholders, we can reduce the prevalence rates of all forms of malnutrition in the region, particularly stunting and overweight and obesity,” RNPC Federizo said.

“May this be our legacy as public servants or nutrition workers – to be part of the journey towards nutrition improvement,” RNPC Federizo added.

The National Nutrition Council conducts Training on Nutrition Program Management to capacitate the local nutrition program planners and implementers to ensure that the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition, the country’s blueprint in improving the nutritional status of Filipinos, is localized and translated in doable nutrition programs and projects which are efficiently and effectively managed at the local level.
