The Coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 has changed the world in many ways possible. It changed the way we live, the way we do things and communicate, among many others.
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) shifted its activities in the “new’ normal” by making use of digital platforms in conducting meetings, trainings and other promotional activities. This is in accordance with the public health measures such as no mass gatherings and physical distancing to prevent transmission of the virus or lower the risk of infection due to COVID-19.
In keeping up with the times, the National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) also shifted its gears in undertaking its local media campaign and nutrition month activities by adopting the use of digital campaign strategies.
In a virtual meeting held on June 18, 2020 via Zoom, NNC-NCR together with its regional media group, NCR Nutrition Communication Resource Group (NCR2), discussed digital campaign strategies and activities in support of Nutrition Month and scaled-up promotion of good nutrition and First 1000 Days amid COVID-19.
The meeting was presided by NCR2 Chair Mr. Marvin Capco (Head-PIO, Mandaluyong City) assisted by NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ms. Milagros Elisa Federizo. Also present at the meeting were Vice Chair Ms. Virginia Velasco (Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas) and members Ms. Lucia Brońo (Philippine Information Agency-NCR), Mr. Reginald Santiago and Mr. John Joshua Mascarińas (Metro Manila Center for Health Development). The meeting was documented by NO II Thesa Rivas.
To scale up the nutrition digital campaign in the region, NCR2 will mobilize the public information officers (PIO) and health education and promotion officers (HEPO) of the 17 local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila to enjoin them to promote good nutrition on their city/municipality’s official social media accounts. The group also lined up specific activities that will be done in the second half of 2020. Through the use of digital marketing and campaign strategies, the group aims to reach more people and influence them to practice healthy eating and positive nutrition behaviors. (TAR/MEVF/NNC-NCR)
