Metro Manila Mayors wearing the PPAN Advocacy Jacket given by the National Nutrition CouncilThe Metro Manila Mayors heeded the call of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to continue supporting the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition or PPAN 2017-2022. The PPAN is the country’s framework that outlines the targets, directions, and priority actions for all stakeholders to achieve positive nutrition outcomes.

The NNC believes in the importance of political leadership in the implementation of the PPAN and investing in nutrition as part of good governance. In addition, local government units (LGU) are the key implementers of the PPAN. Hunger and malnutrition can be eradicated by planning, investing, and implementing quality nutrition programs.

As chair of their local nutrition committee, local chief executives are encouraged to invest in nutrition as a priority program of their administration and ensure the integration of their local nutrition action plan (LNAP) in the executive-legislative agenda (ELA), comprehensive development plan (CDP), and annual investment program (AIP).

The following Metro Manila Mayors wore the PPAN advocacy jacket provided by the NNC with the declaration of their support to the PPAN:

1.) Mayor Carmelita A. Abalos (Mandaluyong City)

2.) Mayor Miguel F. Ponce III (Municipality of Pateros)
3.) Mayor Francisco Javier M. Zamora (San Juan City)
4.) Mayor Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto (Pasig City)
5.) Mayor Jaime R. Fresnedi (Muntinlupa City)Mayor Imelda T. Aguilar (Las Piñas City)
6.) Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez (Parañaque City)

These local chief executives expressed their continued support to the PPAN and committed to continue investing in nutrition as a priority program of their LGU.  Their declaration of support is posted in the National Nutrition Council – NCR Facebook Page www.facebook.com/nnc.ncr and in their respective local nutrition committee Facebook Pages with the hashtag #MayorsforPPAN.

The NNC-NCR hopes that through this advocacy activity, other local chief executives in Metro Manila as well as in other regions will be encouraged to support and invest in the PPAN. Investing in nutrition is good governance.
