Valenzuela City’s Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS) for 2013, Ms. Aurora H. Sedorifa of Barangay Lawang Bato, was adjudged Regional OBNS for 2013 by the inter-agency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) of NCR. BNS Sedorifa bested nine (9) other OBNSs from Metro Manila.
The Search for the Regional OBNS was conducted by the inter-agency RNET alongside the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) from March to April 2014 in Metro Manila. The City/Municipal OBNSs were evaluated based on their accomplishments in identifying and locating target beneficiaries, delivering services, growth monitoring of children, and assistance and participation in barangay nutrition activities in 2013. They also took a written examination for OBNSs on May 13, 2014 at the DOH-NCRO Conference Room.
As the 2013 ROBNS, Ms. Sedorifa will compete for the National Outstanding BNS Award as top 7 based on the validated ranking of ROBNSs. She will be evaluated by the inter-agency National Evaluation Team (NET) headed by Assistant Secretary of Health and NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita T. Flores on August 5-6, 2014. The inter-agency NET will review her action plan and accomplishments in 2013 and visit projects she initiated. Her competencies in weighing and computing the nutritional status of targeted preschool children will likewise be validated by the NET.
The Search for the National OBNS aims to assess the performance of BNSs and recognize those with exemplary performance in the delivery of basic nutrition and related services in the communities where they are assigned. The annual search also serves as an incentive to all BNSs to give their best in the performance of their duties. The NOBNS Award is the highest award given by the National Nutrition Council to the BNS who is the very best among the rest of the BNSs in the country.
