Kalingang Malabonian Lugaw is Essential Project with captionMr. Fidel Baltazar P. Dela Cruz, Malabon City - As part of the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City Government of Malabon continues to provide relief goods, vitamins, and non-food items to all Malabonians through the Kalingang Malabonian Project. Launched in 2019, the Kalingang Malabonian aims to facilitate the delivery of public service to its residents. For this year, the city again served free porridge or “lugaw” to the community through the city’s mobile kitchen.

Dubbed as the Kalingang Malabonian “Lugaw is Essential” Project, the mobile kitchen goes around the 21 barangays in the city in rotation to provide a simple and healthy meal to supplement the caloric needs of the residents.

The lugaw is a complete meal packed with different nutrients as it contains chicken, one (1) whole egg, thick rice and other condiments like dried garlic and onion chives for additional flavor. The lugaw is individually packed for easier distribution. Stationed in a strategic place in the barangay, the community workers including the barangay nutrition scholars ensure that minimum public health standards are followed during distribution.

In support of the project, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) ng Malabon also implemented the SK Mobile Food Station wherein all elected SK Chairman provide lugaw, champorado, and healthy buns for children, adolescents, and other constituents in their respective barangay. Through their mobile food station, the SK Federation aims to give happiness to the community by giving them healthy snacks. The project started in 2020 and was sustained through the collective funds and resource generation activities of the SK Federation.

“We continue to do our best so that no one will be left behind in Malabon especially sa usapang nutrisyon. Simpleng programa man, nakakatuwa dahil marami tayong napapasaya sa lugaw na ating binibigay,” Mayor Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta said in his Facebook post. In a separate post, he added, “Sama-sama nateng pagtagumpayan ang pandemya at malnutrisyon sa ating lungsod.”

The Kalingang Malabonian “Lugaw is Essential” Project started on May 3, 2021 and will continue its rounds as part of the COVID-19 response of the city.
