The National Nutrition Council – NCR conducted the Regional Nutrition Month Awarding Ceremony last August 6, 2021, to cap off this year’s Nutrition Month Celebration with the theme, “Malnutrisyon patuloy na labanan, First 1000 Days tutukan!” via a digital platform.
This year is the second time that the Regional Nutrition Month Awarding Ceremony was conducted virtually via the NNC-NCR Facebook Page in view of the restrictions concerning social gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since Metro Manila is under the general community quarantine ‘with some restrictions’ last July, the regional office maximized available digital platforms to celebrate Nutrition Month including the Awarding Ceremony.
During the ceremony, a video recap of the nutrition month activities conducted all throughout July was presented and the following contest winners were announced and recognized:

- Grand Prize Winner: BNAO DESIREE D. KATIGBAK (Barangay Tanyag, Taguig City)
- First Runner-Up: BNAO MA. NATASIA YSOBEL C. BERNARDO-DIN (Barangay Plainview, Mandaluyong City)
- Second Runner-Up: BNAO JOMAR F. EUGENIO (Barangay San Antonio, Parańaque City)
Nutri-Tula Writing Contest
- Grand Prize Winner: MS. ROSALIE T. CORTEZ, “Para sa Iyo, Aking Supling”
- First Runner-Up: MS. MARIA VALERIE M. REPUTAS, “Pangakong Nutrisyon Para Sa’yo Anak”
- Second Runner-Up: MS. ABRIELLE NATASHA S. REYES, “Dahil Sa’Yo”
Healthy “Ulam of the Day” Cooking Contest
- Grand Prize Winner: BNS MARIA DIVINAGRACIA V. PAREJA (Barangay 189, Pasay City)
- First Runner-Up: BNS AMY P. DACUMOS (Barangay South Signal, Taguig City)
- Second Runner-Up: BNS ZENAIDA S. GARCIA (Barangay Tuktukan, Taguig City)
2021 NCR Regional Webby Awards
- Grand Prize Winner: PASIG CITY NUTRITION COMMITTEE
- Runner-Up: NAVOTAS CITY NUTRITION COMMITTEE
All winners will receive corresponding cash prize and trophy. In addition, all participants will receive certificate of participation and consolation prize for non-winners except for the Regional Webby Awards.
Metro Manila Center for Health Development Regional Director and Chair of the Regional Nutrition Committee, Dr. Gloria J. Balboa graced the event through a video message. As the Nutrition Month Celebration ends, she encouraged the local government units (LGU) to continue the advocacy and mission to attain the nutrition program goals.
“I am appealing to our LGUs that despite the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic to re-strategize and continue the implementation of health and nutrition services in their locality to better achieve program targets,” Dr. Balboa said.
In her message, NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo thanked everyone who supported and participated in the nutrition month celebration. She thanked Dr. Balboa and other members of the regional nutrition committee, local government units, academe, and other stakeholders for conducting various activities in line with the Nutrition Month Theme.
Even if the Nutrition Month has ended, RNPC Federizo hopes that stakeholders will continue to promote good nutrition with focus on the First 1000 Days using the “ABAKADA ng F1K”:
- A - Alagaan ang mga buntis
- B - Breastfeeding kay baby
- K - Komplementary feeding na sapat
- D - Dapat lahat suportado ang PPAN
She encouraged everyone to join the NNC-NCR in the promotion of good nutrition and in the fight against malnutrition by focusing on the first 1000 days of life.
“Ang malnutrisyon ay dapat nating tuldukan na pero ito ay hindi madaling gawin lalo na at tayo ay nasa pandemya,” RNPC Federizo said. She added, “Pero kaya natin itong labanan kung tayo ay magtutulong-tulong at patuloy natin na ipapalaganap ang mga tamang nutrition information at tututukan ang First 1000 Days”.
