BOARD HUNT: Get to know the NNC Governing Board

Board Hunt Governing BoardJoin NNC-NCR as we begin "Board Hunt" to learn more about the roles and functions of the NNC Governing Board (GB).

Now we will learn more about the NNC GB through the Board Hunt Game. This is an online game in which participants must find a set of words that represents each member of the GB. It will be open to the public, and five winners will receive up to a 100-peso load per week.

The Governing Board is the collegial body in charge of policy formulation and execution of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). It is made up of ten government organizations (DOH, DA, DILG, DBM, DEPED, DOLE, DOST, DSWD, DTI, NEDA) and three representatives from private sectors who are appointed by the President for a two-year term with possible reappointment. However, there are only two (2) representatives to date: The Philippine Coalition of Advocates for Nutrition Security (PHILCAN) and the Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD).

The national government member agencies of the NNC GB perform the following functions:

  • Include a bias for nutrition in existing policies or new policies and programs of the agency;
  • Provide resources and build capabilities;
  • Support LGUs in nutrition program management; and
  • Promote good nutrition

Meanwhile, the private sector and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are expected to:

  • Assist in promoting good nutrition;
  • Undertake nutrition projects and research;
  • Test new approaches and strategies for nutrition interventions;
  • Promote inter-linkages in nutrition; and
  • Participate in local nutrition programs
