The National Nutrition Council – NCR aims to intensify online nutrition promotion in the region through the conduct of the Regional Webby Awards.
The Regional Webby Awards has become part of the Nutrition Month Celebration since its launch in 2016. An offshoot of the National Nutrition Council’s Webby Awards, the activity aims to recognize the efforts of the local government units (LGUs) and at the same time to encourage them to promote good nutrition through social media.
NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo recognizes the use of social media as a good strategy in disseminating relevant nutrition information and informing the public of the different activities that the government and LGUs are conducting to mitigate hunger and malnutrition.
“We encourage all our LGUs to have their own social media account for their local nutrition committees (LNCs),” RNPC Federizo said during the judging of the 2022 Regional Webby Awards. She added, “Through social media, mas naipaparating natin sa public ang mga nutrition information, policies, updates, and programs ng government and encourage other sectors to help the government in addressing the problem of hunger and malnutrition”.
Now on its 7th year, the 2022 Regional Webby Awards was conducted to recognize outstanding LGUs with well-managed and syndicated social media account (Facebook Fan Page) as well as outstanding writers in accordance with the set standards/criteria. However, the best web article category was foregone this year due to insufficient number of articles submitted by external contributors.
Sixteen out of 17 LNC Facebook Pages were judged on July 21, 2022 based on the following criteria: interactive (35%), syndication (30%) and content quality (35%). 16 LGUs in NCR have their own LNC Facebook page except for Makati City.
The board of judges consisted of Ms. Alice Sicat, Information Officer IV of the Philippine Information Agency - NCR; Ms. Camille Hari, Project Evaluation Officer II of the National Nutrition Council; and, Ms. Abby Reyes, Information Officer II of the Metro Manila Center for Health Development.
Winners of the 2022 Regional Webby Awards for Best LNC Social Media Account are:
- Grand Prize Winner: NAVOTAS CITY NUTRITION COMMITTEE
- First Runner-Up: PASIG CITY NUTRITION COMMITTEE
- Second Runner-Up: CALOOCAN CITY NUTRITION COMMITTEE
Winners will receive cash prize and trophy. Finalists will also receive certificate of appreciation in recognition of their commitment to promote good nutrition through social media.
The NNC-NCR is hopeful that through the Regional Webby Awards, LGUs will be motivated to continue promoting good nutrition through relevant, engaging and sustained social media presence through their LNC Facebook Pages.
