The National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) conducted a capacity development webinar on August 5, 2022 for NCR Breastfeeding Friends (BFF).
The webinar was conducted as part of NNC-NCR’s commitment to continually assist the C/DNPC of Metro Manila Association in their Online IYCF Counseling Project. Attended by 38 NCR BFFs, the webinar aimed to update members of the NCR BFFs on competencies needed for Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counseling.
The NCR BFFs are registered nutritionist-dietitians trained on IYCF from the 17 local government units in Metro Manila who provide free counseling online to mothers/caregivers to help them in their breastfeeding concerns, complementary feeding practices for children six (6) months and above and even on childcare practices. They are all members of the C/DNPC of Metro Manila Association.
President of Kalusugan ng Mag-Ina, Inc. Dr. Maria Asuncion Silvestre was the resource speaker. She gave updates on recommended breastfeeding practices and provided tips for doing online IYCF counseling effectively. The participants also had a chance to ask queries during the interactive session.
In her message, NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo commended the Association for sustaining the project for three (3) years now. She hopes that the conduct of these capacity building activities will help in the continuous improvement of skills set of the NCR BFFs.
“I hope that all of you breastfeeding friends will stay inspired and motivated to continue providing online IYCF counseling for free through this project of your Association,” RNPC Federizo said. She added, “Magpatuloy sana ang project na ito para mas maraming ina ang maging successful sa kanilang breastfeeding journey”.
The Online IYCF Counseling Project was established by the C/DNPC of Metro Manila Association with assistance from NNC-NCR as part of the campaign in promoting proper IYCF practices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
