The official and staff of the NNC-NCR devoted much of their first working day in 2012 in planning for the various regional activities for the year and strategizing how to improve further their productivity by adhering to the 5S Plus 2 System during their staff meeting held at the Conference Room of the Center for Health Development for Metro Manila in Mandaluyong City.

The 5S Plus 2 System is anchored on promoting the habits of good housekeeping, cleanliness, orderly filing, visual management and self-discipline geared towards provision of a clean and organize workplace, effective record management and on time retrieval of files and documents.

The 5 “S” are: (1) Sort (Suriin) - putting things in order and eliminate unnecessary items in the workplace; (2) Systematize (Sinupin) – arranging and identifying needed items in the workplace a
and promotes the basic principle of organizing a place for everything and everything in its place; (3) Sweep (Simutin) - maintaining a clean and orderly work environment where the habit of not leaving any clutter behind is highly implemented; (4) Standardize (Sanayin) - continuous implementation of the first 3S until compliance becomes everybody’s second nature; and (5) Self-discipline (Sariling- kusa) - where all staff had been trained to follow good work habits supported by strict observation of workplace rules. The additional two “S” are Safety and Sustain which means that well-organized and orderly workplace is a safer workplace and the pro-active effort and support of the individual will sustain the program.

After the lengthy discussion on the components of the 5S Plus 2 System, all the members of the NNC-NCR RO gave their commitment to adhere to the system and make it work towards increased productivity and service excellence.
