NNC-NCR represented by NPC Milagros Elisa V. Federizo was among the partner agencies of POPCOM-NCR that attended the Regional Population Congress held at Hotel Rembrandt on January 24, 2012. This year’s congress theme was, “Population, Poverty, and Governance” with a sub-theme, “Responsableng Pagpapamilya Para sa Kaunlaran”.
The congress was attended by city health officers, nutrition action officers, planning officers, population officers, and health workers from the 17 LGUs in MetroManila as well as partner agencies from the government, non-government organizations, and religious organizations.
Former Regional Nutrition Committee Vice-Chair, now POPCOM Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Rosalinda D. Marcelino, presented the Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP) Directional Plan 2011-2016. Among its program objectives is to help parents/couples and individuals achieve their desired number of children, timing and spacing of children through responsible parenting and to contribute to improving maternal, neonatal and child health and nutrition (MNCHN) condition. The new Officer-in-Charge of POPCOM-NCR, Ms. Eleanor M. Cura, in her presentation of the program milestones in NCR acknowledged the integration of population management as one of the major components of the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP) coordinated by the National Nutrition Council and the conduct of special events including the celebration of Nutrition Month in July, as one of their important achievements in the past year.
