Mandaluyong, the "Tiger City" and the second smallest city in the Philippines, commemorated its 67th Liberation Day and its 18th Cityhood Anniversary through a 12-day celebration from January 29 to February 9, 2012.
It was a celebration of thanksgiving for the city's continuous success and progress as evidenced by the many achievements and accolades received by the City in the past years. Considered as one of their outstanding achievements is the "2010 Green Banner Award" in recognition of their outstanding nutrition program management and implementation which was awarded by the National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region during the 2011 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) held at the Isla Ballroom of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel on August 18, 2011. Mandaluyong was also the Presidential Awardee for being the "Most Child-Friendly City" (Highly Urbanized City category) in 2011 awarded by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC).
The 12-day celebration commenced with a Nutri-Fun Run last January 29, 2012, followed by a medical mission dubbed "Operation We Care" and a night of thanksgiving, "Gabi ng Pasasalamat"- Bantay Bata Night. Other highlights of the celebration included a job fair for local and overseas employment; employees night; the "Koro ng Bayan: 2nd Choir Championship"; awarding of the "Ulirang Mandaleño"; recognition of the Top 10 Taxpayers of Mandaluyong; and the inaugural blessing of a multipurpose hall, police community precinct 6, Hagdang Bato Itaas Barangay Hall, Mandaluyong Public Market, Fabella Road and Day Care Centers. The celebration culminated last February 9 with a Liberation Parade participated by employees, students, and other citizens of Mandaluyong.
