Sta. Rosa City receives its 3rd Green Banner Award8 September 2015- The city of Sta. Rosa was again awarded the Green Banner award during the 2015 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) at the Hotel Jen Manila, Pasay City. The annual awarding ceremony was done to recognize exemplary performance on nutrition from the local government units and local nutrition workers all over the region.
The ceremony was attended by more than 200 participants from different LGUs in the Calabarzon region including their local chief executives, SP/SB Members; Barangay Chairmen; Provincial/City/Municipal Action Officers (P/C/MNAOs); District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs); Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) and the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars in Region IV-A (FBNS IV-A) Inc. The member of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) and Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region IV-A (CNN 4A) also attended the awarding as well as the officers and board of Directors of different government agencies.

Among the highlights of the ceremony was the keynote address delivered by OIC-Regional Director, Corazon Flores of DOH Calabarzon, where she encouraged everyone not to become complacent with the fact that Calabarzon has a low prevalence of under nutrition compared to the other regions in the country. She emphasized that there are still a lot of areas in the region with high prevalence of under nutrition. She added that the problem of over nutrition in the region should also be addressed, as the region is now faced with the “double burden of malnutrition” – under and over nutrition.
RNPC Santiago in her welcome and opening message presented a glimpse of the previous awarding ceremonies. She also named the local nutrition committees and the nutrition workers who already got the highest nutrition honor award in the past years. She then challenged everyone present to continue their nutrition efforts and be nutrition champions in fighting hunger and malnutrition in the region.
Outstanding LGUs and BNSs were determined with the help of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team using the results of the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and BNS Evaluation conducted within the year.
