This year, three (3) municipalities and one (1) city in Calabarzon were awarded by the Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN) as “PSN Outstanding” for having successfully implemented the “Pabasa sa Nutrisyon” for 2015.” These are Alaminos, Laguna; Pangil Laguna; Padre Garcia, Batangas; and San Pedro City.
The other areas, namely: Sta. Cruz, Laguna and Tagaytay City, were both also recognized as “PSN Hall of Famer” for having efficiently and effectively implemented the “Pabasa sa Nutrisyon” for four (4) consecutive years.
“Pabasa sa Nutrisyon” is a “nutrition education peer to peer approach” conceptualized by the Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP) and is participated by mothers in the community. Mothers take turns reading the manual provided which contains good nutrition practices. Thereafter, the mothers are involved in informal discussion on topics which includes breastfeeding, balanced diet and the value of vitamins and minerals. There are also fun learning activities like games that help enhance the understanding of the topics discussed.
The Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN) gives annual recognition to local government units whose efforts in project implementation are exceptional.
