SAN NARCISO, Quezon, Nov. 20-- As part of the expansion of Local Nutrition Early Warning System – Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) in CaLaBaRZon, the National Nutrition Council proposed the project to San Narciso, Quezon. Based on OPT Plus result for 2018, the municipality has the highest number of wasted children in Quezon province and is ranked 3rd among the municipalities with the highest prevalence of underweight and stunting. In the regional ranking of areas in CaLaBaRZon with highest prevalence of wasting 0-59 months children, the municipality fell on the second spot.

Ms. Mary Emerene Pingol and Ms. Ma. Jhonnadelle Ritz H. Castillo of NNC Calabarzon, together with Mr. Allan B. Valencia, District Nutrition Program Coordinator of Quezon Province, conducted a meeting with the Hon. Mayor Florabelle U. Yap, of San Narciso, Quezon on November 20, 2019 for the expansion of LNEWS-FNS in San Narciso. The municipal nutrition situation was presented and a short background of the proposed project. Mayor Yap accepted the proposal and scheduled the consultative workshop and household data collectors training on December 2019.

LNEWS-FNS aims to establish a system that monitors and detects impending crisis related to food and nutrition insecurity and helps prevent further deterioration of food and nutrition insecurity at the local level.
