SARIAYA, QUEZON: Fifty (50) Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) who will be taking part in the documentation of news and events in the municipality, recently completed the news writing orientation during the 46th launching and celebration of Nutrition Month. This year’s theme, “Batang Pinoy, SANA TALL… Iwas Stunting, SAMA ALL! Iwas ALL din sa COVID-19!” expresses the aspirations of the Filipino families to achieve the fullest health potentials for their children.
Through the orientations, the BNSs will be capacitated to write substantive nutrition and nutrition-related stories and events. They are encouraged to submit three (3) articles from July 15 to August 15 with incentives in the amount of Php150.00 cash to be given for every article.
Mr. Reymundo Razon, the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer joined this year’s launching and celebration of Nutrition Month on July 4, 2020, together with the BNSs. The orientations were led by the Chairperson of the Community Radio Council of Radyo Kaisahan Sariaya, Dr. Irma V. Cadiz, together with Program Manager, Ms. Letty Chua and Station Manager, Ms. Mayrenel Manalo. The trainings were held in four (4) batches in adherence to the rules and safety protocols of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). Nutrition IEC materials from NNC were also distributed.
The municipality prepared various creative and exciting activities for the community to ensure a memorable celebration. Among them are the radio segment entitled “Ibida Mo Kalusugan ni Mommy at Baby,” through the Nutriskwela community radio station established by NNC, in partnership with Radyo Kaisahan 107.7 FM.
In the radio segment, the BNSs will showcase their talents and abilities in radio dramatization and narration of proper Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Practices, including the 10 Kumainments. The radio station will allot 1 hour every day from July 15 to August 14 for the said radio segment.
The other activities include the “Search for Best Barangay Nutrition Scholar in Pandemic Situation,” “Virtual Nutrition Poster Making Contest”, “Online Nutritious Recipe Contest (thru Video Presentation),” “On-Air Nutrition Quiz Contest,” and the “Actual and Virtual Zumba.” Cash prizes will be given to deserving winners, – ranging from Php 500.00 up to Php 4,000.00. Potential participants should be ready because final mechanics will be out soon.
The municipality of Sariaya, Quezon, joins the NNC in believing that stunting is not a genetic problem, but rather an effect of intertwined multi-sectoral problems that can be addressed if we do all work together. This is the reason why disseminating the proper nutrition and interventions in the first 1000 days of life of a child to the families in all their barangays is the best weapon to address and eventually arrest stunting.
