CALAMBA CITY – NNC Calabarzon will continue to deliver its essential services through radio plugs of Nutri Komiks Series 1, 2 and 3 to boost the promotion of good nutrition (PGN) and to provide updated nutrition information to all its stakeholders. It started airing since August and will continue up to October 2020 in selected radio stations in Calabarzon.
During the 2020 Communication Plan for Nutrition, NNC Calabarzon and the Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region 4A (CNN-4A) agreed to utilize alternative channels such as radio and other forms of social media for nutrition promotion as the number of undernutrition cases in the whole of Calabarzon continue to increase as a result of the extended community quarantine.
The radio plugs carry topics on exclusive breastfeeding; guidelines on EO 51 or the Milk Code; and continuous breastfeeding even if the mother is COVID-positive. The other plugs are a combination of the three topics, in long and short versions.
Radio plugs being developed will talk about the important role of the Local Nutrition Council during emergencies and the nutrition services that must be provided to prevent worsening of the nutritional status of the affected population. Another radio plug will discuss the important factors to consider when giving complementary foods and timely feeding, and the “Tangkad Plug” will serve as mother’s guide on how Filipino children can achieve optimum growth and prevent stunting.
The CNN-4A (the media and communication arm of NNC Calabarzon) has greatly contributed in promoting good nutrition since 2016. Through virtual meetings during this pandemic, the members of the organization agreed on the production of radio plugs that will be aired in different areas in Calabarzon as community quarantines are still implemented.
The radio plug on breastfeeding was produced by Mr. Emil Jun “Daniel Castro” B. Delos Santos, CNN-4A’s Vice-President for Broadcast and News Director and Anchor of DZJV Radyo Calabarzon. The scripts on Nutrition in Emergencies were formulated by Mr. Relly Bernardo and Ms. Rohanne Pestaño, members of CNN-4A and City Information Office of Antipolo City.
The Complementary Feeding radio plug was developed by Ms. Leticia Chua, member of CNN-4A and Anchor of Radyo Kaisahan, and developing the “Tangkad Plug” stunting prevention is Ms. Maritess Balquiedra, CNN-4A Treasurer and Broadcast Station Manager of Radyo Pilipinas-Lucena City.
Last July, NNC Calabarzon also signed the contract of agreement with Radyo Pilipinas-Lucena City and DZJV ZBNI for the airing of radio plugs (developed by NNC Central Office) on the 2020 Nutrition Month and First 1000 Days topics. The radio plugs started it’s airing in select radio stations in the region in July and August 2020.
NNC encourages all nutrition stakeholders as well as the local radio stations to air the nutrition plugs. NNC will be providing them with the developed materials.
