nsoaIn 2017, the National Nutrition Council launched the “10 KUMAINMENTS” as a campaign to promote the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) to address and prevent malnutrition and diet-related non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer.

Along with this, The National Nutrition Council developed the 10 KUMAINMENTS Nutrition School On-The-Air (NSOA) with the belief that it was the most effective form to reach, educate and give information to the people. The module consists of 12 sessions about the 10 KUMAINMENTS and it has the components of a school setting: teacher, student, quizzes, and graduation. Its procedures include enrollment, monitoring and evaluation, review, and graduation day. This was aired in a few radio stations in the region and was participated by our health and nutrition workers in some of our LGUs.

While the country is recently affected with the global pandemic, different sectors of the society, government and private, are challenged with the transition to cope with the necessary protocols to follow under the new normal conditions while upholding their role in delivering services. One of which is the DepEd’s initiative and effort to continue education among all students where face-to-face learning is limited due to social distancing policies through the implementation of distant learning modalities such as web-based learning.

In line with this initiative and joining the school opening, the NNC-Calabarzon recently launched a re-run of the 10 KUMAINMENTS Nutrition School on-the-Air -- ONLINE on its official Facebook Page every Monday, starting October 12, 2020 and will end on December 21, 2020. Just like any other class, there will be quizzes and prizes a day after each episode.

The online version was produced by the Local Media Group of the Calabarzon Region -- Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region 4A (CNN-4A). The CNN-4A, as the affiliated marketing and communicating arm of the NNC-Calabarzon, has always been steadfast in coming up with ways to disseminate nutrition information in the region through different modes of communication. During this time, as everyone is asked to stay in their homes, people spend more time on social media, letting it be a platform for a wider reach of people in the region.

In this connection, support to augment the efforts in this endeavor is highly encouraged and requested to all Nutrition Action Officers in the Calabarzon region and stakeholders to help disseminate the 10 KUMAINMENTS Nutrition School on-the-Air – ONLINE (NSOA) to the barangays and up to the every household. Indeed, this initiative aims to continue to provide education and information in the region and help address the problems of malnutrition and hunger during these difficult times brought by the current pandemic. This is also a way to remind everyone to encourage adapting a healthy lifestyle through the 10 KUMAINMENTS to contribute to improved nutrition.
