The Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC) of CaLaBaRZon is now on alert and working vigilantly and taking precautionary measures to safeguard and respond to the needs of the communities in affected areas after “Alert Level 3” has been raised in Taal Volcano.

In effect, the Cluster will soon be releasing advisories recommending that the affected cities and municipalities give an update of their capacity map, secure their data repositories like their OPT reports and conduct the Nutrition Initial Needs Assessment (NINA), particularly in areas with evacuees.

The capacity map will help in the identification of trained persons who can give assistance during disasters; OPT plus report will aid the responders in recognizing those who should be prioritized when providing nutrition services; the conduct of NINA is to know what should be prepared and given to the affected population.

According to DOST-PHIVOLCS, raising the alert status to level 3 means there is magmatic intrusion at the main crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions. Earlier, the volcano released short-lived dark phreatomagmatic plume one kilometer.

The residents who live near the volcano Island and high-risk barangays of Agoncillo and Laurel, Batangas were urged to evacuate due to possible pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami.
